Hello, I'm Dorian!
I'm a 21-year-old psychology student, research assistant, and storyteller with a passion for exploring the intersections of human behaviour, creativity, and communication. My academic work in psychology informs much of what I do — from empirical research to creative direction. From 2023 onwards, I have spearheaded Antler Velvet as its Editor-in-Chief, Founder, and Artistic Director, overseeing five issues to date. The journal has evolved into an international arts platform amplifying bold, emerging voices across literature, art, and cultural commentary.
Alongside my editorial work, I have held both paid and voluntary research roles since 2022, when I began engaging in projects at The Kids Research Institute during my first year of undergraduate study. My work has spanned youth mental health, early neurodevelopment and mental health, nutrition, and public health, encompassing statistical analysis, literature reviews, manuscript drafting, and grant applications. I currently volunteer under the guidance of a UN-affiliated social sciences researcher based in Thailand, whose work focuses on Indigenous psychology and culturally grounded approaches to research and intervention. I am most fascinated by clinical psychology, stigma, and adolescent mental health, and enjoy working at the intersection of research, advocacy, and creative communication.
In 2024, I served as Visual Arts Sub-Editor for Pelican Magazine, contributing to its dynamic print and digital platforms. As President of the BPhil Union (2023), I combined my analytical and creative interests to lead marketing initiatives and launch UWA’s first alternate-reality game, Project Vigiseq, designed to engage students in novel ways. My poetry and visual work have been featured in Pulch Magazine, Pelican, and Licorice Zine. Active within Perth’s independent publishing scene, I frequently collaborate with editors, designers, and artists to bridge psychological insight with artistic expression.
